Geneticists at the Prime Lab are responsible for maintaining the Collective and developing genetically modified organisms that feed and serve the citizenry.
Original subjects, Uymras, Rigizul, and Myanu, arrived on Toks Island and oversaw construction on a replica of the Femaki’xirpaxul’s genetic laboratories in 2033. Designers built another genetic harvester, along with dozens of bioengineering labs. After the Femaki’xirpaxul proved unable (or unwilling) to provide power, energists designed transfibre conduits that enabled these labs to harvest energy from the Yulixa Ridge Hydro Plant.
Uymras, a key figure in the Prime Lab’s history, took complete control of the Prime Lab in 2034. She led the creation of hundreds of subglacial flowers, trees, and plants by fusing ancient Femati seed stock with existing subterrain growth. Her leadership also saw the engineering of dozens of freshwater fish from bio-fossilized remains found on the bottom of subglacial rivers and lakes. While leaders Fusofitakil, Pekada, Myanu, and Femitokon busied themselves with exploration and fortification, Uymras focused on the Prime Lab’s development and undertook the first patch collections.
Uymras and her team took these DNA samples and developed a batch of viable diploid cells. Her failure to create a generation led to zaxiri deaths, and her unethical behavior (see the Lonely Time) took many subaki lives. Fusofitakil decreed that Uymras and her hizaki would retain responsibility for the developmental phase of donational production, but Zaxiri and Subaki would oversee implantation. This division of power within the Prime Lab resulted in two separate labs, which would later become known as the Zaxiri College and the Generational Production Department.
Under the leadership of Generation #2, the Prime Lab achieved its most notable successes. From 2093 to 2130, Second-Gen geneticists made significant strides in the field, creating new fruits, vegetables, and livestock from basic organic materials scavenged between the poles. They oversaw the destruction and salvage of Femaki’xirpaxul and the subsequent creation of Femtrux. Their work streamlined genetic harvesting, leading to the creation of the Fifth Ramaxian Generation from a DNA base derived from previous generations.
At the start of the second century, Generation #5 took control of the Prime Lab. Young geneticists developed the Femarctic Male, which led to the Free-Birth Era and the Age of Imbalance (2160-2229). Prime Lab leader and Sixth Gen bio-geneticist Opix Uym played a significant role in the evolution of Femtrux. Her rolling the Ramaxian Communication System into Femtrux caused the lifeform to evolve (creating Intragux). This evolution, in 2161, also led to the Patch Wars, which included an aborted Eighth Generation and the deliverance of a Ninth. During the Sixth Gen tenure, the Prime Lab terminated free-born Femarctic Males and created the Delphic lifeform, which they barely controlled until the creation of the Makodak Unit.
The Prime Lab regained control of the Generational Production Department and Zaxiri College under the Ninth Generation regime when former Secondary Chair, Wox Dag, ascended to the Fifth Office of the Committee. The Prime Lab of Generation 9 created the Arkelon Carrier and a tenth Ramaxian Generation. However, it lost many prominent Sixth Gen geneticists to the private sector, mainly Kadol Polvix, who would go on to create the Ornithocheirus flyer.
In 2211, Tenth-Gen prodigy Fyla Uym (a relation of Opix Uym) created the kyrsbrain, which led to another evolution of Femtrux, who halted of male terminations and then transphased to a location independent of the Prime Lab. Uym would go on to become the Secondary Chair of the GPD. Under her tenure there, she and the Zaxiri College produced an Eleventh Generation, the first with equal caste distinctions.
