In the years that the Second Ramaxian Gen scouted the surface world, an ongoing problem emerged involving the sexual assault of helovx males by Marixi. These attacks resulted in hundreds of documented incidents that received little helovx coverage due to the lack of televised or print media between the poles.
After the Fifth Generation engaged in outreach to developing helovx nations, increased contact with femmar was limited to Hizaki or Bizaki. Over time, helovx governments restricted Femarctic presence solely to ports, where a cohesive rape culture developed in which sexual violence against helovx men was common. The prevalent attitude of Ramaxian World Oceans was to condone, normalize, and excuse such incidents, and because economic trade with Ramaxia was essential to the Age of Diplomacy, helovx governments ignored the rampant sexual objectification and reports of violence.
After the Australian Genocide, helovx-nations again feared Ramaxia, and male presence at commercial ports declined. Under the administration of the Ninth Gen, incidents of sexual assault on helovx males were notable for their violence. When Primary Fusa Kul was asked to comment on these incidents, she stated: Helovx men cry rape because they’re unwilling to accept that their place in this world is beneath a Ramaxian boot.
In the last decade, the appointment of the Tenth Gen into positions of authority, combined with the influx of Eleventh Gen officers into the Polar Fleet and Polar Air Command, has led social relations with helovx men to rebound, in the form of sexual economy. In some helovx ports that see a regular complement of Fleet and PAC, there is at least one area zoned for the purpose of connecting femmar and their gold coin, to helovx males willing to entertain them.
According to Tavo Ex, this perceived ‘sex-work’ only fuels the rape-culture:
–less violent yes, but it still fosters an atmosphere that’s unsafe for helovx males. (…) Eleventh Gen Marixi, and Fleet civilian specialists, have become used to sexualized behavior from these resident helovx males. When in ports that do not condone such activity, harassment of males is a prevalent problem, creating an environment in which sexual assault is more likely to occur.
Hostile attitudes and inappropriate actions toward helovx men, and the toleration of these by the Ramaxian World Oceans and coastal helovx governments continue to hinder the establishment of a safe environment for helovx men, among the femmar.
